Setting a Default Target Namespace

W3C defines an XML namespace as a collection of names, identified by a URI reference, that are used in XML documents as element types and attribute names. The primary use of namespaces in service development is to provide a unique identifier for the service. It affects how the service is called and how it is identified in composite services.

A namespace is declared using a family of reserved attributes. Namespace attributes may be provided directly or by default. In some instances, names default with spaces and must be changed. To avoid having to change individual files, you can set the default target namespace.

To set a default target namespace:

  1. Select Window|Preferences from the main menu bar.

    The Preferences dialog box appears.

  2. Expand Sybase, Inc in the left pane.

  3. Select Services.

The Services preferences screen appears in the right pane.

  4. To save a copy of the current settings:

    1. Click Export to create a file to which you export the current preferences.

    2. Click Finish.

  5. Do one of the following:

    • Type a namespace prefix to use as the default.

Consider using a unique identifier based on your company or organization name, such as urn:mysuborganization:myorganization:mycompany:com

    • Click Import to browse for a file from which you import the preferences.

  6. Click Finish.

  7. Click Apply.
