Viewing Services and Service Operations in the Service Explorer

Use the Service Explorer to browse all services, both public and private, available in your workspace. You can also view additional information about services and service operations. Additionally, you can drag a service operation from the Service Explorer and drop it onto a composite service. This not only saves time but provides more consistent server interaction.

The Service Explorer is a default view in the Services perspective. The default position is the bottom right corner.

To view a service or service operation in the Service Explorer:

  1. Highlight a WSDL that represents the implementation of your service in the workspace.

  2. Go to Window|Show View|Other|Sybase|Service Explorer.

  3. Group the services and operations:

    1. Select the menu button group_services on the toolbar.

    2. Select Group By.

    3. Select the way you want the Service Explorer to display operations:

      • Service Type (default), which displays the services and operations by the type they define.

      • Service Categories, which orders them in the user-defined categories in the Services preference page and set in individual service editors.

      • Service, the default, groups them as public or private as well as specific services.

      • Operation, which displays all operations without showing the service type.

  4. From the menu button, you can also set the viewing to Expand All or Collapse All to control the number of items that are visible.

    Note

Public contains only SOAP services. Private contains all other services.

  5. From the menu button, set the filter to display:

    • By Category

    • By Service Name

    • By Service Type

  6. Each of the above groups can also be set to limit the number of services displayed. The default here is Service Name:

    1. When you select the filter in step 5, click on the arrow in front of the Filter: label.

The Filter section of the Service Explorer expands to display an additional field, two radio button, and an ellipse (...) button.

    2. In the Filter by field, enter the filter expression.

For example, entering an A would indicate the filtering would be based on services that begin with the letter A.

    3. Select either Include or Exclude.

Selecting Include displays all matches for the filter expression entered above. For example, all services with a name that begins with A display.

Selecting Exclude displays all matches except those with the filter expression entered.

    4. Click the dot box to open the filter selection dialog.

You can select a filter other than the default.

  7. Use one of the icons on the toolbar to display parts of the WSDL by:

    • Services (default)

    • Operations

    • Folders for each service type

    • Folders for each category
