Analyzing Business Process Flow and Content

Messages are concrete entities made up of defined fields that are processed in a messaging environment. Message history can be recorded at defined monitoring points.

To successfully implement a business activity monitoring strategy, you must:

  1. Configure each business process monitoring point

  2. Analyze your message flow

  3. Identify the message content that needs to be monitored

This analysis drives the setup of the data that is displayed in the Monitor Console.

To analyze business process flow and content:

  1. Analyze message contents at each stage of the business process. Identify field names and the datatypes to be monitored.

For example, you can monitor a payment message containing many fields by using the date, source location, destination location, amount, or transaction acknowledgement.

  2. Identify the data to be aggregated for business analysis.

  3. Identify additional fields to be monitored that are added to a message as a result of data transformation.

For example, during processing, a transaction amount undergoes a currency conversion, which in turn adds a field that needs to be monitored.

  4. Identify the Monitor database connections.

  5. Identify where your monitor points occur in the business process service.

  6. Identify the fields that will provide information to the monitor service.
