Defining SetType Field Properties

The New SetType Field wizard allows you to identify the field data for the setType and specify its properties.

Field Properties

Property Procedure

Enter field name and press Add button

Type the field name you want to add to the setType and click Add, or click Browse to select a field from the existing fields lists.

Note

It is recommended that you not use non-alphanumeric characters in your field names. These characters are reserved for use in traversing the XML tree and could cause problems when displaying data in the dashboard. However, for NDO-style path addresses, if your business requirements necessitate the use of special characters in field names, such as periods (.), square brackets ([) (]), or backslashes (\), precede each character with a backslash (\).

To remove items from the list, select the item and click Remove.

String

Specify the field type as string. No other Field Type properties are enabled.

Numeric

Specify the field types as Numeric and enter the number of decimal places for the field to allow the field to be added, subtracted, or averaged.

Rate

Specify the field type as Rate and enter the number of decimal places, rate unit, and the time averaged over a period in the appropriate fields:

  • Rate Units defines the increments of time, measured per second, per minute, per hour, or per other defined increment, used to calculate the rate.

  • Averaged Over Period of Time defines the sample size for which the field values are averaged.

Example

A Rate-type field contains a dollar value with Rate Units set to per minute and Averaged Over Period of Time set to one hour.

Since the sample size, or Averaged Over Period of Time, is one hour, a dollar total is used in the field for messages processed during the past hour. Any dollar values from messages processed longer than an hour ago are not calculated in the total. In this case, the dollar rate is calculated as dollars per minute.

Cutoff Interval

Specify the cutoff for each segment of the monitor service history. This interval defines a window of time for storing the historical values for that field. For example, if you set the interval to Hourly, the final value for that field will be stored for each hour.

Reset Interval

Specify the interval for each segment of monitor service history to reset itself. If the reset interval is not reached, the history collected for a monitor service continues to roll over. For example, if the Cutoff Interval is set ot Hourly and the Reset Interval to Daily, then the values from the previous hours will roll into each new hour until the day ends. At that point, the value resets to zero.

Click Finish to complete the setType Field definition and exit the wizard.
