An endpoint represents an actual instance or implementation of a particular resource type.
The following table identifies the implementation types and interface options for a variety of service types.

| Database | A physical database (connection profile) | Multiple interfaces supported |
| EJB | EJB implementation | Single interface /single implementation supported |
| Java | Java code (.java or .class file) | Multiple interfaces supported |
| Message | A transport (queue, file, email account) | Single interface /single implementation supported |
| SOAP | A WSDL file (wrapped services) | Single interface supported. |
| Business Process | A business process (.bpmn file) | Single interface supported; may be bound to multiple endpoints of different types |
| Transformation | A map (.map file) | One map per service |
