Specifying Retrieval Arguments

You can specify retrieval arguments when you add saved query files for your SQL statement operations in the Database Service Editor. See Inserting a SQL Statement Operation by Importing Query Files for instructions.

  1. Go to the Design menu and select Retrieval Arguments to display the "Specify Retrieval Arguments" dialog.

  2. Name it "state" and select a type of String, then click OK.

  3. In the Value column in the Where tab at the bottom of the SQL Painter pane, right-click and select Arguments…

  4. Select :state and click Paste.

  5. Return to the Design menu and select Preview again, to get a dialog where you can enter a value for the parameter.

  6. Type "CA" for California, and look at the Preview pane to see a list of 15 results.

  7. Save the query by selecting File->Save or clicking the Save button on the toolbar, and close the editor.
