Creating XML Elements

An XML element is XML-based rather than HTML-based and is generally used by administrators who are familiar with XML to XSLT transformations.

Note

When Content XSLT is defined, modifications made in the XML URL field may be slow because every time a change is made, Unwired Accelerator recalculates whether the mobile application has structured content. To avoid this delay, clear the Content XSLT field before editing the XML URL, and reenter the Content XSLT afterwards.

Creating a new XML mobile application

  1. Select File|New|Mobile Application.

Alternatively, right-click the Mobile Applications status folder in which you want to create the mobile application, and select Create (status name) Mobile Application With|XML Element.

  2. From the New Mobile Application wizard, select Launch Element Wizard, then select XML from the Element Type drop-down list, and click Finish.

  3. You see the XML Element dialog window. Enter:

    • XML URL – the base URL of the XML source. For example:

      http://p.moreover.com/cgi-local/page?c=Biotech%20news&o=xml

    • Content XSLT – click Search to search for for the category of Content XSLT template you want applied to this mobile application's content; for example:

      moreover_content_xsl
    • UI XSLT – click Search to search for and choose the UI XSLT template (XSLT) that you want applied to the user interface; for example:

      pink_ui_xslt
    • XSD URL – the optional URL of the XML Schema Definition (XSD).

  4. When you are satisfied with your entries, click Next. You see a window that allows you to split the columns or rows in the table and how you want the records in the table to display. See Using Rules and Record Layout.

  5. When you are satisfied with your entries, click Next to preview the element.

  6. Click Finish.
