Developing a Mobile Application

From the Mobile Development perspective, you can quickly create mobile applications that allow you to consolidate Web-accessible information and integrate existing applications into a personalized view which can then be deployed to mobile devices and PDAs.

The following workflow guides you through the development process. The workflow may change slightly, depending on the type of mobile application you are developing. You can also view these steps in a tutorial.

  1. Establish a connection. See Connecting to an Unwired Accelerator Server.

  2. Create a new mobile application:

    1. From the Mobile Development perspective, select File | New | Mobile Application.

    2. Enter the following information in the Mobile Application wizard.

      FieldDescription
      Connection Profile Identifies the Unwired Accelerator server that will store the mobile application. Select the connection profile from the drop-down list. Sybase WorkSpace attempts to connect to that profile if it is not already connected. Or select Create Profile to create a new connection profile.
      Mobile Application NameEnter the name of the new mobile application. Or accept the default name, in which case you will be prompted for a new name when you save the mobile application.
      StatusIdentifies the initial status of the mobile application and stores it in the corresponding folder. Only Approved mobile applications can be deployed to mobile devices.
      Launch Element WizardSelect the Launch Element wizard and select an element type from the drop-down list to add an element to the mobile application. Click Finish to launch the corresponding Element wizard:

  3. Add and order any of the following post-processing options described in Post-processing Options:

    • Charts

    • Listeners

    • Events

    • Form parser

    • JSP filter

    • Text processing

  4. Associate the mobile application with a template. You can associate a mobile application to multiple templates. One for each device type. See Assigning Templates to Mobile Applications.

  5. Deploy the mobile application. See Deploying Mobile Applications.
