When you install Sybase WorkSpace, depending on your license, Adaptive Server Anywhere is installed in the process. If you need the functionality of Adaptive Server Enterprise and it is not already installed on your network, you will need to obtain a copy and license separately from Sybase WorkSpace.
To start Adaptive Server Anywhere:
From the Window Start menu, select Programs|Sybase|Sybase Workspace|ASA 9.0|Start ASA.
To start Adaptive Server Enterprise (provided in the Sybase WorkSpace package):
Use the Windows Start menu:
Select Settings|Control Panel|Administrative Tools|Services.
Scroll through the list of available services until you find the listing for Sybase servers and select the appropriately named SQL server.
Server names follow the format:
Sybase <type>Server_<servername>_<suffix>
where <servername> is the name of the Adaptive Server and <type> and <suffix> represent the server type. SQL is used to designate the ASE server type.
Select Start from the Action menu.
If you want to take advantage of the various services (e.g., messaging, web) that are available with ASE, you will have to perform additional configuration tasks.
Once you have launched Sybase WorkSpace, you need to create an ASA and/or ASE connection profile.
