Controls the truncation of wide columns for displays to fit on a screen.

When SELECT statement results are displayed on the screen, each column of output is limited to the width of the screen. The TRUNCATION_LENGTH option is used to reduce the width of wide columns so that more than one column fits on the screen. A value of 0 means that columns are not truncated.
The default TRUNCATION_LENGTH is 256. For character-mode systems, this is an actual number of characters. For windowing systems, TRUNCATION_LENGTH is used to estimate an area of the screen to be used for display since proportional fonts are used.
