Upgrading the Server

To upgrade from 15.0.3 to the 15.0.3 Cluster Edition, use the upgrade procedures described in this manual.

You can upgrade to the Cluster Edition from:

12.5 through 12.5.4 ESD #8
15.0 through 15.0.3

You can upgrade to this version of the Cluster Edition from:

15.0.1 Cluster Edition to 15.0.1 Cluster Edition ESD #4

You can directly upgrade from 12.5.4 including ESDs and 15.0.x versions including 15.0.3 nonclustered server. However, once you have upgraded to the 15.0.3 Cluster Edition you cannot downgrade back to an nonclustered 15.x or earlier server. You can downgrade back to 15.0.1 Cluster Edition through 15.0.1 Cluster Edition ESD #4 .

Only upgrades to and from the same page size are supported. Use bcp to re-create the schema and load data from one page size to another.

Use Adaptive Server plug-in or the sybcluster utility to perform many of the pre-upgrade and upgrade steps for you. You can also upgrade the server manually.

Preupgrade Tasks
Before beginning the upgrade process, install the Cluster Edition onto your system in a new location.
Manually Upgrade Overview
Manually upgrading Adaptive Server consists of six processes.
Preparing the Database and Devices for the Upgrade
If you ran the preupgrade, it scanned the system catalogs and calculates how much additional space you need to perform the upgrade.
Upgrading the Server Using ASE Plug-in

Upgrading the Server Using sybcluster
Learn about the upgrade process using the sybcluster utility, and preupgrade tasks to complete before upgrading your old server. You can also perform a manual upgrade to the Cluster Edition. See the Manually Upgrading topic for how to do this.
Postupgrade Tasks
Complete these steps after upgrading to the Cluster Edition.
Recovering From a Failed Upgrade
During the upgrade process, the transaction log may get full due to the catalog changes that are made. If so, log in to the new server using isql, and issue:
Upgrading Java in Database
The Pluggable Component Interface (PCI) configuration values are used by all of the nodes in a cluster. To share files between nodes, using working directories, you need shared directory locations in the file system that are visible to all nodes using the same path.
