Installing components with the Installer in GUI mode

  1. Download and extract the Adaptive Server install image from the secure download site.

  2. Go to the directory where you extracted the software and start the installer by entering:

    ./setup
    
  3. The Welcome screen displays. Click Next.

  4. When the license selection window displays, select the most appropriate location from the list, read the license terms, and then click “I agree” to proceed.

    If the country you are located in is not listed, select the most appropriate area.

  5. Click Next. The Install directory window appears.

  6. Click Next to accept the default:

    /opt/sybase
    

    You can also enter a directory for installation. If you specify a directory that does not already exist, the installer creates it for you. Sybase recommends that you install the Cluster Edition in its own directory.

  7. Choose one of these installations types:

    • Typical

    • Full

    • Custom – selecting this displays the Products and Features Selection window. Choose the products you want to install by checking the box next to each product name.

      NoteSome features are dependent on other features; therefore, you cannot unselect some items without first unselecting others.

  8. Click Next. Before proceeding to the next window, the installer verifies the selections and checks for dependencies and available disk space. You see an error message if you do not have enough disk space.

  9. If you are installing Adaptive Server into a directory with an existing Adaptive Server installation, the installer checks to see if the existing license authorizes use of the Adaptive Server version being currently installed. If the license does not authorize the use of this version, then a warning asks if you want to proceed with the installation.

    NoteProceed only if you have an updated license that authorizes use of this version. Failure to apply an updated license causes Adaptive Server to stop working after this updated version is installed.

  10. In the Sybase Software Asset Management License Server screen, specify whether the licenses will be obtained from a license server. If you answer:

    • Yes – you must know the host name of the machine where the license manager is running, and the port number if you have used a non-default port number.

    • No – you will be using unserved licenses. You will be reminded to download and install the license file after you have finished the installation.

      When you download the license file, copy it to $SYBASE/$SYBASE_SYSAM/licenses.

  11. The Sybase Software Asset Management Notification screen asks you to configure your server for e-mail notification with the following, so that designated users receive information about license management events that require attention:

    • SMTP server host name

    • SMTP server port number

    • E-mail Return Address

    • Recipient e-mail addresses

    • Message severity that triggers e-mail messages

  12. The Product Edition and License type panel displays. Select the Product Edition you are installing and the License type under which you have licensed Adaptive Server.

    NoteFor this version, your only choice is “Cluster Edition.”

    The Product Selection Summary window displays the selections that you have made.

  13. Verify that you selected the correct type of installation, then click Next. The Install Progress window shows the progress of the installation, then displays the result of the installation process.

  14. Click Finish to exit the installer and go on to the next step.

  15. Adaptive Server Enterprise Cluster Edition files are on your computer. Next, follow the steps in Chapter 3, “Creating and Starting the Cluster.”
