Postinstallation Tasks

After you install the RAP core components, shut down the RAPCache server, obtain and activate your SySAM license, restart the RAPCache server, check the status of your servers, and load the sample data.

1. Shut down the RAPCache server.
2. Obtain and activate your SySAM licence.
3. Unset the variable JRE_HOME if it exists in the environment.
4. Adjust the number of locks in the RAPCache.
5. Adjust the default named cache size in the RAPCache.
6. Restart the RAPCache server.
7. Check the status of your servers:
   1. Verify RAPCache.
   2. Verify RAPStore.
8. Load the sample data.

• Obtain a Valid SySAM License
  Sybase Software Asset Management (SySAM) performs license administration and asset management tasks for Sybase products. RAP requires a valid SySAM license.
• Loading the Sample Data into RAPCache
  Use $RAP/RAPCache/datamodel/scripts/load_unix_cache_TAQ_tables.sh to load the sample data into the RAPCache database.
• Unsetting Environment Variable JRE_HOME
  Users whose platforms have Java 1.4 or an earlier version installed as the default JVM must unset environment variable JRE_HOME to resolve a Java version problem.
• Adjusting the Default Named Cache Size in the RAPCache
  Adjust the default named cache size to use as much memory as can be spared by the system ASE is running on.
• Adjusting the Number of Locks in the RAPCache
  Use sp_configure to ensure that the number of locks in RAPCache is greater than the number of locks required by the RAPCache Subscriber or other applications that may query the data.
• Starting the RAPCache Server
  After you install the core components and activate your SySAM license, restart the RAPCache server.
• Verify that All Servers are Running
  After you start RAPCache, check to see that your servers are running and that you can connect to the servers.
• Create the Primary and Overflow File Directories
  During installation, the installer prompts you to identify the primary and overflow file directories that RAPStore uses to write market data messages before it loads the database. The location of these directories depends on the type of install you perform.
• Customize and Configure the System
  At times, users may find it necessary to customize the system by adding new columns and tables. When customizing a system, certain steps must be taken to properly configure the system.
• Clearing RAPCache
  Clear the data from the RAPCache on a regular schedule, as the data is permanently stored in the RAPStore and is redundant in the cache.
