Compatibility mode is a mode that allows you to upgrade from an Adaptive Server 12.5.x server to an Adaptive Server 15.0 server while retaining similar performance characteristics of the 12.5.x server. Once you have enabled compatibility mode and upgraded to the Adaptive Server 15.0 server the 15.0 server utilizes a query processor similar to that of the old 12.5.x server and provides alternative optimization and execution strategies.
