Chapter 4: Advanced Application Creation

Using continuous capture

The continuous capture feature enables you to capture a set of Web pages that are connected (or related) to each other, and define how to extract and display the content from the various pages. You can navigate through this set of pages using embedded hyperlinks, can preserve the original Web site’s page structure, and can redefine how to present the linked captured pages.

Continuous capture allows you more control over content and presentation of captured Web sites. For example, you can extract tabular data and present it in a structured, grid-oriented layout, and build drill-down applications. This allows you to create applications that use click-across functionality more effectively, and also build applications that can then be captured as a whole and delivered to a mobile device.

StepsBuilding an application with continuous capture

  1. Log in to Mobile Web Studio.

  2. Select Applications in the left pane, select New under Application Manager Status, and click the New button to launch Application Builder.

  3. Click the down arrow next to Add and select Web Element. You see the New Web Element window.

  4. Follow the procedure for creating a Web element. See “Creating Web applications”.

  5. In the Continuous Capture window, click Continue, then click OK in the pop-up window.

  6. In the Defining Continuous Capture window, select the Format, then click Next.

  7. When the page reloads, move the mouse over the area you want to capture. The window refreshes and shows various presentation styles. Select the presentation style you want, and click Next.

  8. Click Finish to return to the Application Builder.

  9. Save the application.

The Mobile Application Development Tutorial contains sample procedures that illustrate how to use this functionality.
