Loading ASE sample data  Editing the script files

Chapter 3: Cache Database Setup

Moving the sample data to the server

All sample data for the RAP cache is located in the %Sybase%\Data\ASE\RAP_Input directory. Although Sybase distributes sample data as comma separated value (.csv) files, some data has been compressed (.zip) to conserve disk space.

Preparing the reference sample data

Use FTP to transfer all of the .csv files in the %Sybase%\Data\ASE\RAP_Input folder from Windows to the UNIX machine on which the ASE server resides. The .csv files, which contain the sample data, must be transferred in ASCII format. Make sure all .csv files are accessible to the ASE client. The sample data in these files is loaded into the reference tables in the ASE database.

Preparing the TAQ sample data

The TAQ sample data, which is loaded into the STOCK_TRADE and STOCK_QUOTE tables, must be unzipped and transferred using FTP.

  1. Unzip the STOCK_QUOTE.zip and STOCK_TRADE.zip files located in the %Sybase%\Data\ASE\RAP_Input directory.

  2. Create a work directory (for example, /data/source/ASE) on your UNIX machine where the ASE server resides.

  3. Use FTP to transfer in ASCII mode the data files STOCK_QUOTE.csv and STOCK_TRADE.csv from Windows to the UNIX machine on which the ASE server resides.

Note The .csv files, which contain the sample data, must be transferred in ASCII format.

Refer to the section “Loading the TAQ sample data” in Chapter 4, “Loading TAQ Data” for information on loading this sample data into the STOCK_TRADE and STOCK_QUOTE tables in the RAP cache.
