If you want the SQLX XML document to contain non-ASCII as plain characters, specify no in the ncr option.
select * from example_I18N_table for xml option 'ncr=no' returns unitext ----------------------------------------------------- 0x000a003c0072006500730075006c007400730065007400200078006d...etc
