When you create a child, the Verity search engine automatically assigns a default weight of 0.50 for children of topics which use the ACCRUE operator. A weight of 1.00 is assigned automatically to children of topics that use the AND or OR operators. These default weights can be manually adjusted up or down, as described in “Changing weights”. When you create a evidence topic off of a topic that uses a proximity operator, default weight of 1.00 is assigned, and it cannot be changed.
