Understanding the Report painter Design view

For most presentation styles, the Report painter Design view is divided into areas called bands. Each band corresponds to a section of the displayed report.

reports with these presentation styles are divided into four bands: header, detail, summary, and footer. Each band is identified by a bar containing the name of the band above the bar and an Arrow pointing to the band.

These bands can contain any information you want, including text, drawing controls, graphs, and computed fields containing aggregate totals.

The following picture shows the Design view for a tabular report.

This sample Design view for a tabular Data Window object is divided horizontally into four areas or bands, Header, Detail, Summary, and Footer. A shaded bar beneath each band displays the name of the band and an arrow pointing up to it. The Header band displays the title Total Compensation Report Salary Plus Benefits at top left. In the middle are dollar totals for value of health insurance, life insurance, and day care. At top right are the page number and date. Across the bottom of the header band are nine column headers for the data. The Detail band has five fields for data, such as dept _ i d and emp _ i d, check boxes for the three types of benefits, and an expression under the Salary Plus Benefits column. The Summary band has fields for Grand totals and Overall averages. The Footer band is empty.
