The automatic indexing utility is part of Enterprise Portal’s concept-based search service. Use the indexing utility to schedule the indexing of documents in specified data sources. You must index the data sources before you can search them.
The automatic indexing utility runs continuously and performs operations from one or more queue files or directories. You specify the names of the queue files or directories in the PortalSearchautoindexer.cfg file.

The automatic indexing utility—Sybase Portal Search – Auto Indexer—runs as a service on Windows. If you need to start the automatic indexing utility manually, verify that you have read/write permission for the PortalSearch directory.
Starting the automatic indexing utility
Select Start | Settings | Control Panel.
Double-click the Administrative Tools icon, then double-click the Services icon.
When the Services dialog appears, scroll down the list and click Sybase Portal Search – Auto Indexer to select that service, then click Start.
When the Status changes to “Started,” close the service window.
Stopping the indexing utility
To stop the auto indexer utility, select Start | Settings | Control Panel.
Double-click the Administrative Tools icon in the Control Panel, then double-click the Services icon.
In the Services dialog box, scroll down the list and click Sybase Portal Search – Auto Indexer, then click Stop.
When the Status becomes blank, click Close.
