Use any of the following methods to install Sybase servers:
Studio Installer – use the Studio Installer to install servers and customize them for a production environment. Fully customizing a server at installation time reduces the need to make changes later. Use this method to license your Adaptive Server optional features during the installation process.
Resource file – first, use the Studio Installer to install the server components on to the hard drive, then run the srvbuildres utility to install and configure Adaptive Server and Backup Server for additional sites that require identical servers. The resource file also allows installation in environments in which X-Windows is not available. You cannot install Monitor Server and XP Server using resource files.
You can access the installation utility, asecfg in the $SYBASE/$SYBASE_ASE/bin directory to configure a new server, upgrade your existing server, and change the default language of the server.
