Too many index stripes can eventually cause a bottleneck; periodically unify the stripes into a single stripe.
Unifying an index stripe
From the Document Stores page, select a document store and click Index Information.
Click Unify Indexes. This unification process purges data marked for deletion and defragments the indexed data structures.
