Chapter 5: Making Database Administration Changes

This chapter discusses changes to Adaptive Server system administration that may cause problems if you do not prepare for them. For a comprehensive listing of changes and new features, see What's New in Adaptive Server Enterprise.

NoteChanging applications and system administration is the most time-consuming part of migration preparation and this guide does not tell you how to make these changes. You must choose a method to do this that suits your needs and resources. For instance, you may want to develop your own plans and scripts, or you may prefer to contact Sybase Consulting for help. Sybase Technical Support offers a Web site, the ASE Migration Resources Web page, for migration information and can help with technical problems such as bugs and error conditions.

NoteIf you perform an upgrade instead of a migration (that is, you upgrade without rebuilding your system), you will not see any change in dbid between versions of Adaptive Server. This becomes a problem only if your maintenance scripts use these IDs and you build a new system, which then uses the new ID conventions.
