If you are using Adaptive Server Anywhere for the portal database, rather than Oracle, you must start the Adaptive Server Anywhere program from the command line.
Starting Adaptive Server Anywhere
Go to $SYBASE/ASA.
Execute portaldatabase.sh to run Adaptive Server Anywhere on the port assigned during installation. The default is 6100.
