The Energy Policy Act of 2005 changes the US daylight savings time (DST) observance beginning in 2007. The bill amends the “Uniform Time Act” of 1966 by changing the start and end dates of daylight saving time starting in 2007. The updated DST starts on the second Sunday in March and ends on the first Sunday in November. In 2007, the start and stop dates will be March 11 and November 4, respectively, compared with the first Sunday in April (April 2) and the last Sunday in October (October 29) for 2006.
Due to these changes, the IBM JRE DST rules need to be updated with the new dates to avoid discrepancies between JRE and updated DST time. For customers in the United States, these changes were made in UA 8.0, and no action is required. For others—such as Western Australia, Bermuda, and others—the IBM Java SDK/JREs must be upgraded for this change.
Guidance on upgrading the IBM Java SDK/JREs for DST can be found on the IBM support Web site. The Java SR 3 (Service Release) from IBM contains the DST-enabled Java from IBM. This Java SR contains the Day Light Savings time update for US and Canada. For other locations that need the DST update, follow the instructions in the IBM link to use the IBM Time Zone Update Utility.
