Make a copy of the RUN_server file. A common naming convention for this new file is RUN_SERVERNAME_TRACEFLAG. For example, if you wanted to start an Adaptive Server named PRODUCTION with trace flag 3605, you could copy your existing RUN_server file into a file named RUN_PRODUCTION_3605.
Edit the new RUN_server file to include the desired trace flag.
The sample modified RUN_server file below includes the 3605 trace flag for an Adaptive Server named PRODUCTION (substitute the correct values for your installation, including the correct trace flag number):

The last element of the last line activates the trace flag, which is flag 3605 in this example.
Use the startserver command to start Adaptive Server with the modified RUN_server file:
% startserver -fRUN_PRODUCTION_3605
The startserver command must be on
one line.
After you have completed corrections, restart Adaptive Server with your normal RUN_server file.
